Ginger has been the most talked root in the community of chronic illness and autoimmune diseases as it gives a lot of health benefits not only to people who aren’t sick but also to people battling such diseases. As mentioned in our talk on our Facebook page, your diet is essential to complement your medications. The reason is a proper diet helps you to maintain your current health and avoid future admission and readmission to the hospital. Ginger being part of your diet can actually help you ease some of the levels of the excruciating pain from your chronic or autoimmune illness.


As the season changes Lupus is always accompanied by pain. The pain usually ranges from mild to extreme. Whenever extreme pain is felt, we bet to stay in bed and stop doing anything that we needed to do. Did you know that ginger can be part of our holistic approach in managing pain in our bodies?


Ginger and its role in Lupus


Many types of research and studies are fascinated with Ginger and its medicinal attribute for quite some time already. Ginger is used in cooking as well as added to some cosmetics products. We all know that Lupus becomes more aggressive when there’s inflammation. Since the disease mistakenly attacks healthy cells because of its overdriven immune system. Inflammation can cause risk and danger to every organ of a lupus patient such as heart, lungs, kidneys, digestive system, brain, bones and muscles, and even skin. When an inflammation happened a lupus patient may experience flares that are between moderate to intensive ones that could risk their lives. Ginger has three important roles for lupus patients. It is anti-oxidant, anti-tumor and most importantly it is anti-inflammatory.


What’s in Ginger that helps in Managing Lupus?


Ginger contains phenolic compounds known as gingerol, shogaol, and paradol by which performs all three roles of ginger to Lupus patients.

Lupus patients' immune systems are usually suppressed which made them more susceptible. This allows them not able to fight diseases such as cancer. Including ginger to their diet can lessen the rate of developing a tumor.


An antioxidant is a good help for lupus patients' digestive health. Lupus patients with no complications with Gastro issues, ginger can play a good role in easing stomach pain. In addition, it helps in regulating bowel movements.

Lastly, it helps manages and ease inflammation. It means that it can slow down any organ deterioration in our body.


In addition to the top three roles of Ginger to Lupus patients, ginger is also considered as an antibacterial which means, it helps you fight infection in your body.

How to add ginger in your diet?

Ginger is now used in many different ways. You may use ginger as a condiment spice that adds flavor to your dish or soup. You can also make some homemade ginger ale which is proven good for fever and stomach pain. Some people prefer to have ginger tea. While many more productions produce a leveled up version of chewy candies, lozenges, and many more! All these can help you manage your lupus.


Have a zingy sip of ginger tea

The most popular way of adding ginger to your diet is through ginger tea. Today we’ll give the instruction to make your own zingy ginger tea.

Ingredients:

2 inch ginger sliced

Honey (alternatively with brown sugar, or stevia)

1 slice wedge of lemon (alternatively calamansi. Totally optional)

500ml of water

Instructions:

1. Place your sliced ginger inside the kettle together with the water.

2. Bring the water and ginger to boil and let it continue to boil for another 4 minutes until the ginger scent is smelled with the smoke.

3. Transfer the ginger water extract to a teacup.

4. Put a couple of teaspoons of sugar or a teaspoon of honey on it.

5. Squeeze your lemon

6. Stir the tea until completely mix.

7. Enjoy drinking it especially in the morning.
