Self-care is giving the world the best of you, instead of what's left of you. - Katie Reed.
Being a patient with an autoimmune disease, we always face chronic fatigue and some limitations that hinder us from doing normal activities and planned activities. In this situation, we think about how effectively you can take care of yourself while battling Lupus so that you can participate actively in any activities.
Sometimes we do feel guilty whenever we cancel or wasn't able to attend what's been planned. We also feel guilty that we weren't able to give our 100% though we believe we can.
Being a 16 years Lupus patient, it has been an experiment to me on how can I progress in doing self-care. Here are the 5 ways on how effectively you can take care of yourself while battling Lupus or autoimmune diseases:
Listen to Your Body and Have a Check-Up
Having Lupus or any autoimmune disease gives you in-depth communication with your body. You get to feel, sense, understand, and learn that there are some triggers and reactions from your body whenever you do something, eat something, or took new medication. Also, whenever you feel sickly, you have to listen to those signs. If you need to rest, better rest.
In addition, we all know that any signs of infection are something to be bothersome. Go ahead and have a check-up, don't let it sit and get worse, since autoimmune diseases target any of our organs once it's flared. If you are looking for a credible clinic and laboratory, we can refer you to True Wealth . They offer medical clinics, pre-employment (Fit to Work), laboratories and ultrasound. They specialize in Lupus, Osteoarthritis, Gout, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Vasculitis, Osteoporosis, Soft Tissue Rheumatisms.
Exercise
Exercising for some patients may be difficult at times, but it has been proven by studies, that even mild exercises can help improve Lupus patients current medical status. Exercise can help lupus patients strengthen parts of the body that is affected by Lupus such as (Heart, Lungs, Bones, and Joints). It can also help reduce inflammation and of course, improve your mental health.
Our beloved Dr Collene Galeng created a specialized presentation of exercises that you can do at home while battling Lupus. If you want to try those exercises you can download the presentation in here.
Eat clean, natural, and healthily
Many of us keep asking what diet to take when we have Lupus? Honestly, having an autoimmune disease or chronic illness is always about having good laboratory results for you not to have any further complications. Your laboratory results are directly affected by your diet. The best way to avoid complications is to balance your results through your diet. Why?
For example, you're a patient with Chronic Heart Disease, but you didn't mind your cholesterol levels. In time, the cholesterol levels may cause a more tragic event with your CHD. That is why the best way to avoid complications is to have prevention through your diet. The Happy Plate for Happy Patients is a guidebook on how you can start eating and cooking healthy while battling any chronic and autoimmune disease so that you can prevent developing any further complications. It can also be a health guide for those who take care of a patient. You can visit its facebook page or order directly from its online form.
Pamper yourself
Pampering sometimes sounds expensive, but you can do this in the comfort zone of your home. You can have a foot spa by adding some salt to the warm water where you can soak your feet. Have a massage with your BFF or partner at home. You can also have a relaxing bath scrub with Anela's Oatmeal with VCO Beauty Bar Soap, or a good facial massage with Anela's Anela Brightening Facial Set and Anela Ageless Cream.
By the way, whenever you order Anela products using the code of Live Love and Hope, they will be donating some proceeds to us. Our code is JGJ-ABE-GLS, you just didn't get to buy any of their pampering products but also donate to the Live Love and Hope projects. Visit their store by clicking this. You can also order from their official facebook page and chat the code to them.
Prioritized your mental health
Having autoimmune disease and chronic illness can sometimes result in isolation because of the need to keep yourself away from the crowd to avoid diseases that can complicate your health.
Sometimes, the isolation causes loneliness, the pains that people can't understand because the pain comes in different levels for patients like us, fears, anxiety, and depression are familiar to patients like us.
Remember that the key to a healthy life is a healthy mind my spoonies. If you need to disconnect from everything to reconnect with yourself, do it. If you need to have professional attention for it, seek it. If you need to be admitted to a facility that can rehabilitate your mental wellness, do it. There's nothing wrong with putting your mental health first. Stress and intense emotions can trigger our diseases. Free yourself from these radicals and it can help improve your health.
